I decided to
build a new high performance 80 meter monobander that would be
optimized for 3700mhz. After making up drawings for the antenna,
I proceeded to acquire the materials that I did not have on hand
in my machine shop. The mast assembly below the coil is 1 inch
stainless steel tubing with machined inserts. The Coil is 6" in
diameter, made from Delrin and Polycarbonates, with stainless
steel fittings. The wire used for the coil is solid 12 gauge
copper, with a spacing of 5 turns per inch, allowing for high
power applications. The Capacity Hat is 14" high, and 27" in
diameter. The 8 elements making up the hat are 36" high tensile
stainless steel, with a wire diameter of 3/32". The Capacity Hat
is spaced 26" above the Coil. I cannot stress enough as to how
impressive the performance is of a well built 80 meter antenna
is, when running a Gain-Twist Capacity Hat up top. With this
cap hat up top, the coil only needs 20 turns of wire
to be resonate on 3700mhz . It don't get much better than
that with a mobile. After much 'On The Air' testing, I am
pleased with the performance of my new 80 meter Gain-Twist Monobander.
