.
After a night in Prince George BC, it was back
on the train for the 9 hour trip to Jasper.
The scenery for this leg of the trip was unbelievable.
What a day! It was very clear outside, crisp, and cold; a postcard
out every window.
We stopped in a remote town in BC called
"Penny" and it apparently was a saw milling town at one time. Now it only
has about 8 people living there. It still has its post office and
its mail is still delivered by the train.
When we stopped briefly in Penny, there was
a very nice Dog that came and sat by the train waiting for anyone to pay
some attention to him - perhaps wishing for his very own Postal Delivery
person that he could bark at and chase - but instead only train passengers
who gave him a gentle and much welcome pat on the head.
The Penny post office used to be a building
about the size of a garden shed, but the current building which is in the
picture is much bigger - about the size of an average bedroom. The
train crew calls the Post office in Penny "The Mall".
So, naturally, I had to send a postcard from
Penny, British Columbia signifying that I was there and justifying the
existence of the Penny Post Office.
After that it was all spectacular mountain scenery
and about 100 kilometers prior to arriving in Jasper
Mount Robson - highest mountain peak in
the Canadian Rocky Mountains and usually surrounded by a layer of clouds
was wide open for everyone to see, a rare occasion.
